2018 Black History Celebration in Hobbs, NM

In honor of Black History month, the Lea County Commission for the Arts presents the 5th
Annual Black History Month Celebration at the Center for the Arts in Hobbs, NM. The 2018
Black History Month Celebration will feature live performances of music and dance by artists
such as the Langston University Marching Pride Band and fraternity step team, Golden Feline
dance team, local Gospel singer; Glenda Mackey, the Community Ensemble, Hip Hop & R&B
artists; Shaq “Dieseltrain” Swain, Jamiah Smith & Khyri and local dancer, Marques “Kaosu”
The celebration will take place on Saturday, February 17th, beginning at 2pm with a
marching band procession from the corner of Grimes and Broadway Street, down Broadway to
the Shipp Street Plaza and Center for the Arts, located at 122 W Broadway Street. Door prizes
will be given away throughout breaks during the performances. The celebration will conclude at
4pm (MST). Admission for the celebration is $5 at the door, free for all LCCA members and
students under 18 years. Guests of all ages are welcome!
Prior to the celebration, the Langston University Band will perform during halftime on Friday,
February 16th between 7-8pm at the Hobbs High School Boys Varsity basketball game at Tasker
Arena, located at 800 N. Jefferson in Hobbs, NM.
The 2018 Black History Month Celebration is supported, in part by the City of Hobbs Lodger’s
